(Don't) Forget the Debt

By Alonzo | Thu, 02/16/2023

Get out of debt or at make it your goal to always be reducing your debt - at least on the long-term curve.

The U. S. Money Supply has ballooned since the first quarter of 2020, with the onset of "the pandemic". (See chart).  Raise your hand if you think the money helped.

An "expert" with a vlog on the internet that I respect just said this...
"As long as the illusion of stability in the debt market continues, the markets will go up."

That might sound like a lot of fog to you, but it affects every single person on this earth, and those who understand it get wealthier and wealthier at the expense of those who don't.

And just as important - this is a different factor - you're affected whether you are liable for debt (personal or business debt) or not, because you are affected by the governments (local, state, and federal) that can sign you up for public debts so that you and your family after you effectively owe "the piper".

Then (here's another point) as the debt increases, the way it increases is by increasing the money supply, which, if you've studied economics taught by a good teacher, you know causes the value of your money slowly evaporate.

So forget the debt...in other words, reduce how much you need to think about it by paying your own debt down or off.  And don't forget the debt...remember you're "doomed" :) because you're limited in how much you can control the effect of public debt on you and your family.

So again..."See what you're looking at."

Hip, Hip, Hurrah!

Wikipedia included the article about Peder Severin Kroyer's painting on the site's homepage a while back.
Finished in 1888, the painting "says" much about joy and fellowship and life, and the artist.
I particularly like the singular focus of the group on their enjoyment of the moment...or is it the bubbly stuff...or their time together.  I think it's all of the above.

Don't BEF or GMO

By Alonzo | Mon, 01/30/2023

We recommend you don't partake of any processed food that contains any genetically modified organism (GMO) or bio-engineered (BE [...we say BEF for "bio-engineered food"]) food ingredient.
Food labels as of January 2022 are required to inform consumers that BE's are present.  It's been disappointing to see how prevalent these labels are.
Almost every single soybean and most corn grown in the United States is genetically modified to be able to be grown in a field where they can use chemical herbicides to spray the plant crops - to kill the weeds around the plants without killing the crops.  And soybeans and corn are used in some form in almost every single product on the grocery shelves.
The argument persists over whether GMO's and BE's are harmful or not.  We believe that any food that grows in nature is better for you because it was designed to be healthy for you.  If a food ingredient has been modified genetically, it's our opinion it will not satisfy you and may likely be harmful long-term to your body as it travels through your alimentary canal1
Another issue is that GMO/BE's are used to feed livestock which may be sold to you at the grocery store.

1 My opinion is based on my belief that God created the earth and designed it to be a blessing to us; to feed us, cloth us and otherwise provide for us.

AeroPress The Aeropress coffee press is an amazing little tool.  It only brews small amounts of coffee - which may seem like> a disadvantage at first - but this gives you precise control of brewing your coffee.
We have our own system that we use; amount of coffee, amount of water, length of brewing time, water temperature, etc.  We may try to post a video here later of some of the more unique things we do when brewing.

  • Inexpensive - to purchase and operate
  • Lightweight and portable (they make a camping version that's more compact)
  • Easy to operate and clean

You can check it out at aeropress.com.

Michelin Tires

By Alonzo | Fri, 01/20/2023

They are more expensive than other tires, but they're better in every aspect important in a tire.
They last longer, ride better, handle leaks/punctures better, and that makes them an excellent investment.
If you see Michelins on a used car, you can be sure of two things:

  1. the car is worth more than if it had less expensive, lower quality tires, and
  2. the person who owned the car cared about their cars and their tires
